Verizon says $28.1B buyout of Alltel on track
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Verizon Wireless says it is moving forward with plans to acquire Alltel Corp. for $28.1 billion, although the country's financial climate has worsened since the companies reached an agreement four months ago.

AT&T unites fixed-line, wireless consumer units
By PETER SVENSSON AP Technology Writer NEW YORK (AP) - AT&T Inc., the country's largest telecommunications company, is reorganizing to put one executive in charge of both its wireless and consumer fixed-line phone businesses.

Nokia to buy Canada's Oz Communications
HELSINKI, Finland (AP) - Nokia Corp., the world's largest cell phone maker, said Tuesday it will buy mobile messaging company Oz Communications of Canada to give consumers access to instant messaging services and e-mails through their mobile devices. No financial details were disclosed. Nokia said the deal was expected to be completed by the end of 2008.

Sprint begins mobile WiMax network in Baltimore
(AP) - Sprint Nextel Corp. opened its new wireless network to customers in Baltimore on Monday, offering Internet service for laptops for $30 per month. It's the first commercial network in the U.S. to use so-called WiMax technology for mobile customers.

T-Mobile uncaps data plan ahead of Google phone
NEW YORK (AP) - In advance of the new Google phone, T-Mobile USA has changed the wording of the user agreement for its wireless data network and no longer claims the right to slow surfing to a crawl once a subscriber goes over a monthly usage limit.
